Bert Barry, in his Doggett's coat and badge and another waterman on the QBC foreshore on the occasion of Princess Elizabeth visiting to start the 25th anniversary Head of the Rive Race.
Bert was World Professional Sculling Champion from 1927 to 1930 and succeeded his uncle, Ernest, as King's (later Queen's) Barge Master in 1952. Bert coached many an up-and-coming Quintin oarsman in the post-war years.
