Distance Barrier Fawley Finish
Wed 5 July beat Kingston 1¾ L 1.59 3.23 7.02

"Quintin led by 2/3 length at the ¼ mile, by a length at the Barrier and by 1½ lengths at Fawley. Although down to 31, they held this lead to the Finish." [HRR]

Thur 6 July beat London 3½ L 1.59 3.22 7.07

"Quintin led by 2/3 length at the ¼ mile, by a length at the Barrier and by 1½ lengths at Fawley. London kept going at 38, but Quintin at 33 led by 2 lengths at the Mile." [HRR]

Fri 7 July (QF) lost to Jesus College, Cambridge 2/3 L 1.59* 3.22 6.58

"There were three heats in the Thames Cup before luncheon, one of which was most exciting. This was the race between Jesus and Quintin, who had been expected to extend Jesus, but perhaps not so fully as they did. Quintin led by a quarter of a length at the barrier (1min 59 sec), and by a few feet at the half mile. But at Fawley (3min 22 sec) the crews were level. Jesus then showed ahead, leading by a canvas at the three-quarter and mile posts. A fine spurt brought Quintin level again at the mile and an eighth signal, but Jesus came away up the enclosures to win by two-thirds of a length." [The Times]

"Quintin led by ¼ length at the ¼ mile and by a canvas at the ½ mile. Both kept up a high rate. They were level at Fawley. Jesus led by ¼ length at the ¾ mile and the Mile, but only by a canvas at the 1⅛ mile. They finished at 39 and won a good race." [HRR]
