"The only close race [in the event that year] came in the opening round between Tideway Scullers and Leander & Quintin. At 40 to Leander & Quintin's 36, Scullers had a length at the Barrier but could not get away. At Remenham Club, with both crews at 32, Leander & Quintin closed up to half a length. There was still only half a length between the crews at the bottom of the enclosures, but Tideway Scullers then drew away to win by one and two thirds lengths." [HRR]
