1968
QBC racing the University of London "Grand" crew over the full course at HRR '68, prior to the deluge of that year. If you look closely you can see, bottom right of the photo, the puddles from the UL boat. Later that year QBC represented England at the Home Countries International regatta on Lake Blessington, Dublin and UL represented Great Britain at the Mexico Olympics.
This race took place on the w/e before the regatta began and was for the Canada Bowl (Cup?), an ad hoc private event that was resurrected whenever we had a crew worthy of challenging UL. To quote Lionel, "It was a humdinger of a row, never more than ¾ length in it all over the course. We were v' pleased with ourselves. Come the following Wednesday, though, the rains began to fall and the rest is history."
Cox, Martin Fitzgerald, stroke John Peters, 7 Neil Floyd, 6 Mike Ealand, 5 Lionel Bailey, 4 Robin Hinnell, 3 Bill Millward, 2 Andy Dawson, bow Brian Fentiman. Coach Ron Needs.
