See another photograph. "Quintin at 42 against 43 gradually drew away to win by one length." [HRR] "Quintin gained a fine victory over Princeton University. Both crews rowed at a high rate of striking, but Quintin had slightly more power and they gradually went ahead until they had a length's lead. Waters [the QBC stroke] was content to hold on to that lead and by that margin Quintin qualified to meet Thames to-day." [The Times] "Quintin rowed 11, 21 and 42 and Princeton 12, 24 and 43 in the first quarter, half and full minute. Quintin led slightly at the end of a minute and were half a length ahead at the First Signal. Princeton continued to row a fast stroke but had not the power of Quintin, who gradually increased their lead to win by one length" [The Times] | |||||

"Quintin started at 42 to 40 but Thames drew away slowly and led by three-quarters of a length at Fawley, and a length at the three-quarter mile. Quintin gained rapidly along the Enclosures, but were beaten by a canvas." [HRR] "Quintin rowed 11, 21, and 42 to 10½, 20½ and 40 by Thames in the first quarter, half, and full minute. After racing level up Temple Island Thames showed to the front and led by a canvas at the First Signal. They reached the Barrier in 2min 4sec. Thames had increased their lead to three-quarters of a length at Fawley in 3min 27 sec and were a length ahead at the Three-quarter Mile Post. Quintin spurted hard near Remenham Club and gained rapidly along the Enclosure. However, they just failed to get up" [The Times] |
