Wed 1 July | beat Lensbury | 1 L | 2.17* | 3.50* | 7.57 |
"Lensbury gained a lead of half a length by the first signal and maintained it to the Barrier. Then Quintin began to go up and, taking the lead soon after Fawley, led by half a length at the mile and won by a length." [HRR] "There was a good race between Quintin and Lensbury, in which Lensbury at the faster stroke led over the first half of the course, but Quintin were undismayed and, rowing longer and more steady, they drew away after passing Fawley to win a fine race by one length." [The Times] "Lensbury rowed 40 and Quintin 39 in the first minute. Lensbury led at once and were a canvas ahead at the end of a minute and half a length at the First Signal. They still led by half a length at Remenham Barrier in 2min 17 sec, but above that point Quintin commenced to draw up and at Fawley, reached in 3min 50sec, Lensbury only led by a few feet. Rowing longer and steadier, Quintin took the lead above Fawley and were half a length ahead at the Mile Post. Lensbury spurted along the Enclosure, but when Quintin answered they went away." Quintin were nearly a length ahead at Remenham Barrier in 2min 16sec, and just over a length up at Fawley in 3min 51 sec. Rowing 34 to 32 by Westminster Bank, Quintin gradually increased their lead." Fri 3 July (QF) | lost to Tabor Academy (USA) | easily | 2.10 | 3.41 | 7.45 |
The HRR report says nothing other than "Won easily". "Tabor rowed 10, 19, and 37 to 10, 20, and 39½ by Quintin in the first quarter, half, and full minute. Tabor went away very fast, leading from the first stroke and being three-quarters of a length ahead at the top of Temple Island and a length and a quarter ahead at the First Signal. Tabor were nearly two lengths up at Remenham Barrier in 2min 10sec, and over two lengths at Fawley in 3min 41 sec, where they had dropped to a strong paddle at 28. Tabor continued to forge ahead and were three lengths ahead at the Mile Post. Quintin were quite outpaced." [The Times] |
