"Kingston led from the start and were half a length ahead at the top of the Island. Rowing five strokes a minute slower they led by three-quarters of a length at Fawley, and won by one length." [HRR] "As was expected, Kingston experienced little difficulty in disposing of Quintin, but Quintin have had numerous troubles in losing key men of their crew recently, and they made a plucky race of it. Kingston did not exert themselves to win by a length." [The Times] "Kingston rowed 36 and Quintin 38 in the first minute. Kingston were half a length ahead at the top of the Island, and the same distance at the Barrier, in 2min 10sec. Kingston, although rowing four strokes to the minute fewer than Quintin, gradually increased their lead and were two-thirds of a length up at Fawley, in 3min 36 sec. Without increasing their rate Kingston drew away." [The Times] |
