"There are no outstanding English crews. Quintin are probably the best together and quickest off the mark, but they kick their slides away fast." [The Times, Wed 5 July]

Wed 5 July | lost to Tabor Academy (USA) | easily | 2.16 | 3.52 | 7.58 |
"Quintin rowed 38 and Tabor 40 in the first minute, the Americans leading at once and gaining half a length in the first 20 strokes. Quintin then held them, and at the first signal Tabor were only half a length ahead. They still led at the Barrier, reached in 2min 16sec, but they had drawn clear at Fawley, reached in 3min 52 sec. Tabor, in the smoother water, continued to forge ahead." [The Times] "Tabor gained ½ length in the first half-minute, but Quintin then held them. Tabor held their ½ length lead until after the Barrier, but then went away fast, had over a length at Fawley and continued to gain steadily." [HRR] |
