Sat 4 July (QF) | beat Bedford Sch & Abingdon Sch | 1½ L | 2.07* | 3.32 | 7.18 |
"The best of the first round races was between Bedford and Abingdon Schools, and Quintin and Wallingford Clubs. At 39 settling to 36 Bedford and Abingdon led Quintin and Wallingford, who started at 38 and 35½, by half a length at the quarter mile, but were only a canvas ahead at the Barrier. Quintin and Wallingford moved into the lead approaching Fawley, and, sculling 32 to Bedford and Abingdon's 34, built up a lead of two lengths at the mile. They were then safe but Bedford and Abingdon fought hard to pull them back to a length and a half at the finish." [HRR] | |||||
Sat 4 July (SF) | lost to Walton & Trent | ½ L | 2.02* | 3.23* | 6.53 |
"The first semi-final ... provided the best race of all [in the Fawley]. Starting at 39 and 36, to 40½ and 36 by Walton and Trent, Quintin and Wallingford led by half a length at the Barrier, where both were at 35. With little variation in rating Walton and Trent then inched their way back to take the lead just beyond the mile. They had to spurt to 38 at the finish to hold off Quintin and Wallingford, who came home at 36, but were good winners by half a length." [HRR] |
